The reaction equation is straightforward: Na₂S₂O₃ + 4Cl₂ + 5H₂O → 2NaHSO₄ + 8HCl. Consequently, it is widely used for dechlorinating drinking water, adjusting swimming pool water, pre-treating water before exchange in aquaculture, and protecting catalysts from chlorine poisoning in chemical production.
