Organic Chemical Raw Materials Phenol Petroleum Additives for Optimal Production
Phenol (English: Phenol or phenyl hydroxide, commonly known as carbolic acid), defined as C6H6O, is mainly produced by the oxidation and decomposition of isopropylbenzene. It is an important organic chemical raw material and can be used to produce various chemical products and intermediates such as phenolic resin and bisphenol A. It is also used as a solvent and disinfectant.
Phenol is an organic compound with the chemical formula C6H5OH. It is a colorless needle shaped crystal with a special odor, toxic, and an important raw material for the production of certain resins, fungicides, preservatives, and drugs such as aspirin. It can also be used for disinfecting surgical instruments and excreta, skin sterilization, itching relief, and treating otitis media. Melting point 43 ℃, slightly soluble in water at room temperature, easily soluble in organic solvents; When the temperature is above 65 ℃, it can dissolve with water in any proportion. Phenol is corrosive and can cause local protein denaturation upon contact. Its solution can be washed with alcohol when it comes into contact with the skin. A small portion of phenol exposed to air is oxidized by oxygen to quinones and turns pink. When encountering trivalent iron ions that turn purple, this method is usually used to test phenol.
