Polyaluminum chloride (PAC),Water Treatment Agents Polyaluminum Chloride for Effective Removal of Contaminants in Drinking Water and Sewage
Polyaluminum chloride (PAC) is a water-soluble inorganic polymer between AlCl3 and Al (OH) 3, with a chemical formula of [Al2 (OH) nCl6-n] m, where m represents the degree of polymerization, n represents the neutrality of polyaluminum chloride products, and n=1-5 are high charge polymer chains with Keggin structure. PAC has a high degree of electrical neutralization and bridging effect on colloids and particles in water, and can strongly remove toxic substances and heavy metal ions. Its properties are stable, and it is often used as an emerging water purification material and coagulant, widely used in the purification treatment of drinking water, industrial wastewater, and urban sewage.
Polyaluminum chloride is divided into two types: for drinking water and industrial water, which are subject to different relevant standards. Its appearance color is yellow or light yellow, dark brown, and dark gray, and its form is divided into two types: liquid and solid. This product has strong bridging adsorption performance, and during the hydrolysis process, physical and chemical processes such as coagulation, adsorption, and precipitation occur. The fundamental difference between polyaluminum chloride and traditional inorganic coagulants is that traditional inorganic coagulants are low molecular weight crystalline salts, while polyaluminum chloride's structure is composed of multi carboxyl complex compounds with diverse forms. It has a fast flocculation and precipitation rate, a wide range of applicable pH values, and is non corrosive to pipeline equipment. Its water purification effect is obvious, and it can effectively remove color SS, COD, BOD, arsenic, mercury and other heavy metal ions in water. This product is widely used in the fields of drinking water, industrial water, and sewage treatment.

1. Water treatment field
The most widely used field of polyaluminum chloride is water treatment, especially for the purification of drinking water, sewage, and industrial wastewater. Due to its excellent flocculation performance and low usage cost, polyaluminum chloride is widely used in water quality treatment such as urban water supply, industrial wastewater, domestic sewage, and river water.
Application method:
Drinking water treatment: Polyaluminum chloride, as a flocculant, can effectively remove suspended solids, colloidal particles, heavy metal ions, and other harmful substances from water. Its advantage is significant flocculation effect, which can achieve good treatment effect at low doses.
Wastewater treatment: Polyaluminum chloride is used to remove harmful substances such as oil stains, dyes, petroleum substances, and other organic pollutants from industrial and domestic wastewater. Due to its efficient removal ability, polyaluminum chloride is often used as a flocculant in conjunction with other water treatment agents such as coagulants and coagulation aids.
River water treatment: In the case of eutrophication and deterioration of water quality, polyaluminum chloride can be used to treat algal blooms and harmful substances in river water, improving water quality.
2. Industrial wastewater treatment
In many industrial production processes, wastewater often contains a large amount of pollutants such as suspended solids, oil pollution, heavy metal ions, etc. Traditional chemical treatment methods often fail to meet environmental protection requirements. Polyaluminum chloride, as a highly effective flocculant, is widely used in the treatment of industrial wastewater.
Application method:
Pulp and paper industry: In the treatment of papermaking wastewater, polyaluminum chloride can effectively remove pollutants such as suspended solids, pulp fibers, and surfactants in water, reducing COD (chemical oxygen demand) and BOD (biological oxygen demand).
Chemical industry: In the process of chemical production, wastewater often contains pollutants such as acids, bases, salts, and metal ions. Polyaluminum chloride can effectively remove these pollutants through flocculation, reducing water pollution.
Food industry: In the wastewater treatment of food processing industries such as sugar mills and distilleries, polyaluminum chloride can remove suspended solids, color, and oil.
3. Paper production
In the paper production process, polyaluminum chloride can not only be used as a flocculant for wastewater treatment, but also for the purification of pulp and the recycling of wastewater in the production process.
4. Food and beverage industry
The application of polyaluminum chloride in the food and beverage industry is mainly reflected in the clarification and removal of insoluble substances, especially in the production process of fruit juice, beverages, and other liquid foods.
